CMM is a 100% owned factory of Cipla Ltd (India) and derives direct benefit from the pharmaceutical manufacturing expertise and technologies that Cipla has garnered over the last 75 years. It brings world class, flexible, contract manufacturing solutions to South Africa.
Situated in Durban, CMM is one of South Africa’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturing plants that is approved by both the RSA’s Medicines Control Council (MCC/PIC’s) and the Ghana FDA. The factory headed by a strong and experienced management team is fully equipped to offer all pharmaceutical companies a world class, high volume manufacturing solution for oral solid dosage formulations. Customers can be assured of the benefit of leveraging our competitive advantage and strong buying power when sourcing raw and packaging materials.
The facility is uniquely designed in that there is physical segregation between the stores, primary and secondary processing areas. This minimises the risk of cross contamination and ensures uni-directional material flow. All incoming materials (raw materials, primary and secondary material) and finished goods are received and housed in dedicated stores that are temperature and humidity controlled.
Unique design and capabilities,.

Since Cipla acquired a 100% stake in 35-year-old over the counter (OTC) pharmaceutical manufacturer Mirren in 2018, it has invested more than R70 million to increase capacity, improve safety and drive efficiencies at the facility located in Benoni, Gauteng. With the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) approval obtained from the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority’s (SAHPRA), the facility runs at full throttle to ensure continuous supply of over-the-counter medication.
Cipla is committed to servicing patient demand that has seen Mirren’s OTC products, such as Broncol cough syrup, Coryx, Tensopyn and Ultimag, become household names in the last 35 years.
In 2019, a new granulation suite was constructed at Mirren, and the old granulation and packaging suites as well as the raw materials warehouse were upgraded. The Mirren facility now includes a laboratory, a finished goods warehouse and new air handling and water facility. These changes, in addition to improved efficiencies across the supply chain, helped to increase the production capacity at Mirren by more than 67%.
