This photo was taken in October 2014 just before my grandpa was diagnosed with dementia and it is one of my most treasured memories. My mom, brother and I went over to visit my grandparents in Scotland and spent the most wonderful two weeks with them. It was just after I had gotten engaged and it was a holiday filled with such happiness.
Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia and a heartbreaking disease that robs you of these treasured memories. There are no available treatments that stop or reverse the progression of the disease. But while dementia may erase these memories, our photographs freeze these beautiful moments in time and allow us to hold onto them. The very best memories are the ones we make together.
